What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a hands-on, holistic, alternative health care approach to better health and increases livelihood through diet, exercise and (certainly) manipulation of the spine and extremities. We are regarded as being the nueromusculoskeletal (nerve-muscle-skeleton) professionals. Chiropractic is a lifestyle of health care.

Is chiropractic safe?

Absolutely. When compared with other medical treatments, which include medication and surgery, chiropractic is by far the safest. It's estimated that 140,000 people in the united states die each year from drug-related reactions and nearly 100,000 people die as a result of medical errors. Insurance companies who assess the risks of all professions, and charge a premium based on the risk the profession poses, rate chiropractors as the lowest insurance premium of all health care providers. Even though thousands of chiropractic adjustments are made each year, only a few complaints are registered.

Is there a minimum or maximum age for a person to receive chiropractic?

There is no age excluded from chiropractic. Even babies may have subluxations, due to the rigors of birth. In Denmark, for example, Chiropractic Doctors are part of the birthing team. Children's subluxations should be treated early, as they interfere with nerves that control developing muscles and organs. Abnormal stresses on a rapidly developing spine and other bones and joints may cause them to develop abnormally.

How can Chiropractic help me?

Chiropractic can assist you by working with you and your other health care professionals by maintaining your spine in proper alignment and motion. Every organ in the body is under some type of neurological (nerve) control, so does it not seem sensible that if nerve impulses do not get to the organ its function is going to be compromised?

What is an adjustment?

The gentle correction of a subluxation manually or device to relieve the pressure on the nerves and thereby normalize proper function and optimize health.

What is a subluxation?

Subluxation refers to a spinal bone (vertebra) that isn't in its right position or not moving in its normal range of motion. Misaligned vertebra are irritating nerves and blood vessels, which in turn affects the way your body communicates with your spine. Subluxations are the reason for pains and dysfunctions in muscles and organs. The body’s natural ability to heal itself is greatly improved with the subluxation removed.

What are the main causes of subluxations?

1. Physical Traumas such as slips, falls, whiplash, repetitive motions, bad posture, heavy backpacks, etc.

2. Emotional Stress such as grief, anger, fear and depression

3. Chemical Imbalance such as increased alcohol use, drugs, environmental issues and poor diet can cause subluxations.

Does the adjustment hurt?

Most chiropractic adjustments are not only virtually painless, they actually feel great and relieving. In cases of a recent injury, inflamed tissue may react to adjustments and cause some discomfort. Application of ice after treatment may soothe any irritation.

Can I adjust myself?

No. Some people may make their joints “pop” and think they've made an adjustment. Wrong! Damage can occur by “self manipulating” a joint with weakened muscles and ligaments. Adjustments are specific and require the skill of a professionally trained doctor of chiropractic to administer. Even your chiropractic doctor must consult a colleague to personally benefit from chiropractic care.

What if I do not respond to chiropractic?

The consultation and examination are necessary to determine if chiropractic can help your condition. If not, you may be referred to another specialist who might be able to help. In any event, your health and happiness are our primary goal.
